Holly Chaffee, RN, BSN, MSN is the President/CEO of Porchlight Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) and Home Care with offices in Lee, Pittsfield and Chicopee. A registered nurse with more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, she has distinguished herself as an innovator in enhancing the quality of patient care industry-wide. This includes her advocacy and work with high-quality VNA’s across Massachusetts to set strong clinical standards. These standards address the home care industry’s challenges of lower reimbursements and larger competition from for-profit and hospital-based agencies.
Chaffee has worked in post-acute services leadership roles in both for-profit and non-profit organizations. Beginning her career in healthcare as a nurse in pediatrics, she first served in the pediatric tertiary care unit at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Bronx, NY and; later, worked in the pediatric intensive care units at Albany Medical Center and Hartford Hospital.
Moving to the post-acute setting, she has held just about every position in the world of home care. She was a pediatric case manager and hospice nurse, starting her home care career staffing pediatric shift cases in the home and worked as a weekend nurse for a VNA. She has also held roles as a Home Health Aide Supervisor, Clinical Director, Branch Director, and Executive Director. In Holly’s consulting practice she supported start-ups for Adult Day Care Centers, Private Duty Home Care, and Certified Home Care. In her recent work with a health system she was selected to serve on a project team charged to forge a full continuum of care.
To strengthen the long-term viability of the agency, Chaffee spearheaded a bold move in 2010 by successfully renaming and re-branding the former Lee Regional VNA and Berkshire Home Care to Porchlight VNA/Home Care. This was a major shift for an agency with more than 100 years of history in the community. Chaffee again set the bar higher in 2013, by merging Porchlight with fellow, free-standing non-profit Chicopee VNA and Great To Be Home Care. She has also implemented an electronic medical record, home-visiting nurse practitioner program, and opened a satellite office at an independent living facility, Devonshire Estates of Lenox. As one agency, Porchlight now shines brightly in Berkshire, Hampshire and Hampden Counties.
Porchlight’s commitment to quality has been recognized with several awards, including MA Department of Public Health deficiency-free surveys and HomeCare Elite® Awards of Excellence. Most recently, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented a new five-star rating system for skilled home health care agencies and awarded Porchlight the only five-star rating in Western MA.
In 2013, Porchlight VNA/Home Care’s innovative work was nationally recognized when Chaffee addressed healthcare leaders from across the country at the Remington Reports Annual Post-acute Summit. Her presentation, “Innovations – How Post-Acute Providers Are Effectively Responding to New Market Dynamics,” focused on many of the principles she has implemented at Porchlight to enable the organization to remain competitive in the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare.
Chaffee served as the Board President for the Visiting Nurse Associations of New England (VNANE) from 2012-2014. She is the Board President of The Home Care Alliance of MA, Board President of the Lee Chamber of Commerce, and a Board Member of the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce. Chaffee also holds other volunteer positions in the community.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Skidmore College she went on to attain a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of Hartford. She is married and has two sets of twins.
