Ann Gaylord, 69, of Pittsfield, has had more than her share of health challenges. Over the years, fibromyalgia and severe arthritis have led to surgeries to replace her knees, shoulders, spine and even her jaw.
Ann loves to attend activities at the Pittsfield Senior Center where she participated in Porchlight VNA’s Move In Time Falls Prevention Program. Ann not only learned about how to prevent falls, she learned that she could turn to Porchlight in her time of need. Ann’s arthritis progressed in her shoulders causing her intense pain and limited arm movement. Unable to drive to outpatient therapy, Ann utilized Porchlight’s Medicare B services to receive skilled occupational therapy (OT) in her home. After twelve OT visits, Ann regained functional use of her shoulders allowing her to once again enjoy her daily activities.
Ann did not hesitate to call Porchlight when she experienced another decline in her health. Now homebound, Ann is being visited by Porchlight’s professional team that includes nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Ann suffers from severe varicose veins and a blood clot in her leg. Porchlight will continue to care for her as she faces a series of surgeries performed by Jose Heisecke, MD, of Berkshire Surgical Associates.
