Berkshire County’s retired Chief Court Officer, Frank “Chico” Martin, suffered from chronic arthritic pain in his hip which put a damper on an extraordinarily active life. Since retiring five years ago rigorous exercise has been a core part of Chico’s daily routine. His physical activities include cardio, weights and outdoor activities, such as hiking and winter snowshoeing in the Pittsfield State Forest.
As a result of Chico’s worsening pain, he was referred by a friend to hip specialist Carl Talmo, MD, at New England Baptist Hospital, who recommended a replacement. On January 7, Chico underwent a successful surgery and went home the next day. Care at home was required for a full recovery before he could get back out on the trails.
He chose Porchlight for goal-oriented nursing support and physical therapy to heal property and regain his strength and flexibility.
Outcome: Being so active and in good physical condition before his surgery, Chico recovered quickly (three weeks!) with the support of the professionals at Porchlight. Now that he’s back on his feet with a brand new hip, he looks forward to a more active than ever 2015.
In His Own Words: “Porchlight has been so wonderful. They are very pleasant and professional. I really look forward to them coming (to my home). They get you moving. I’d absolutely recommend Porchlight.”
